A major new housing project in Northamptonshire looks set to create new construction jobs, it has been reported.
According to the Northampton Chronicle & Echo, a total of 2,670 jobs will be created close to Towcester during the delivery of 3,500 houses.
In addition, two new schools, sports pitches, a health centre and a sports pavilion will be constructed.
Speaking to the newspaper, councillor Sandra Barnes, leader of South Northamptonshire Council, said that a new Towcester bypass was needed in addition to the new homes.
"It's absolutely essential we get our bypass through Towcester," she commented.
"But it's also important that if we're going to have new people living here, they've got to be able to connect easily with Northampton and other places."
Further construction jobs could be created in the region in a separate initiative involving the delivery of 1,600 properties towards the north of Brackley.
A recent report from the Homes and Communities Agency revealed that the east Midlands region exceeded its affordable homes target in 2008-09.
