Construction jobs firm Kier is to celebrate the official opening a £13 million Crystal Centre project today.

Kier Eastern carried out the build on behalf of the North Essex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (NEPFT).

Mary St Aubyn, NEPFT chairman, said: "Our dementia services are already nationally recognised as a Centre of Excellence and we're delighted that Frank Bruno has opened our new centre to which these fantastic services are moving."

The Crystal Centre in Chelmsford, Essex, deals with over-65s who have mental health issues.

With four wings and two floors the facility boasts 34 beds and aims to supply care including inpatient assessment, alongside day and community services for its users.

The opening of the building brings together care facilities for dealing with illnesses such as dementia in one place for the first time in the region.

NEPFT provides support for more than 17,000 patients in relation to mental health illness, social care services and substance misuse.
