Recently, the Highways Agency announced that the National Audit Office's (NAO) recognition that the Managing Agent Contractor (MAC) contract procedure means more maintenance projects can be kept on schedule is good news.
Graham Dalton, chief executive of the Highways Agency, said: "We welcome the NAO's finding that our maintenance contracts largely follow best practice and allow us to manage risks and deliver efficiencies over time."
He added further comment about some recent findings by the NAO, stating that the organisation has found that since 2002 the cost per square metre of road resurfacing has risen to the tune of 70 per cent.
Mr Dalton added that the Highways Agency has undergone a transformation in the past five years and it is constantly reducing the expense of maintaining roads.
MAC is simply an official term that makes reference to a maintenance contactor.
