Many construction jobs are developed from young people entering apprenticeships and under the Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Act 2009 - which was passed last week - guidelines are put in place which the government hopes will see one in five young people undertaking an apprenticeship by 2020.
In 1997, 65,000 individuals started an apprenticeship, although this figure stands at a quarter of a million for 2009.
Construction recruitment is one of the sectors that will fall under the remit of the new law.
"The new Skills Funding Agency will help drive forward these new measures and ensure a quick response to the demand for skilled workers. It's really important that we remain committed to investing in people and their skills," stated skills minister Kevin Brennan.
The York Press reported that construction apprentice Jack Ambler is helping to carry out £4.8 million worth of electrical and mechanical engineering services on a £30 million Carillion project at his old school, Joseph Rowntree School.
