Kier Group has appointed construction managing director Paul Sheffield to take over as its new group chief executive when John Dodds retires next March after nearly 40 years with the firm.

Kier confirmed to the Stock Exchange this morning that Mr Sheffield would be the firm's new managing director, Contract Journal reports.
He joined the Kier Regional board in 2004 and was appointed to the Group Board in October 2005.
Currently he has responsibility for the Group's construction, infrastructure and overseas businesses.
Kier comprises a UK-wide network of regional contracting business and major projects expertise in the UK and overseas.
Recently, Kier London finished the Olympic Park primary electrical substation - the first building on the London 2012 Olympic Park to be completed.
The striking black brick substation in King's Yard began supplying electricity last month.
