The £6.6 million project will see two squares in the town centre refurbished, with a new water feature, children's play area and new transport access routes added to the square .
Work will also include new terraces and seating, new lighting to enhance the Woolwich Equitable and Royal Arsenal Gatehouse buildings and new stall for Woolwich market, under plans approved by the local authority on December 15th.
Commenting on the proposals, leader of Greenwich Council Chris Roberts said: "The transformation is about preserving and improving these local landmarks so that they can be enjoyed well into the future.
"The council is committed to the regeneration of Woolwich and delivering modern services, excellent transport links, more jobs, decent and affordable housing and leisure facilities."
Earlier this month, Greenwich Council launched a consultation on proposals to pedestrianise part of Greenwich town centre to help tackle traffic congestion which, if approved, could create more construction jobs.
