Housing minister John Healey has revealed that certain areas across the north and Midlands will share £311 million for work already underway on transforming homes and regenerating communities.
"This power of government investment will
support the construction industry during the recession, create opportunities for local workers and apprentices to learn a trade," commented Mr Healey.
A total of £2.2 billion has already been spent by the government on regenerating towns across the 12 Pathfinder areas.
This has included refurbishment on around 60,000 homes for around 140,000 people, with the new funding set to go on renovating a further 6,500 homes for approximately 15,000 people.
It recently emerged that the government is to spend £4.5 million on developing trainees and apprenticeships for the industry, which could mean more people will be seeking construction jobs in the future.
