A government pledge to build offshore wind turbines in the UK could help create thousands of construction jobs and create a £75 billion industry, it has been claimed.

Nine winning bidders have been named to build the windfarms in different zones across the UK.
These are Moray Offshore Renewables SeaGreen Wind Energy the Forewind Consortium, Siemens Project Ventures and Mainstream Renewable Power, East Anglia Offshore Wind, Eon Climate and Renewables UK, Eneco New Energy, RWE Npower Renewables and Centrica.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown commented: "The offshore wind industry is at the heart of the UK economy's shift to low carbon and could be worth £75 billion and support up to 70,000 jobs by 2020."
He added that the contracts represent a substantial round of investment in UK construction jobs.
Part of the programme will see some 950 wind turbines erected in the Firth of Forth and Moray Firth in Scotland.
