JOB DESCRIPTION

Wood has an opportunity for a Piping Stress and Support Engineer to provide and support engineering activities on an HPHT, to be based in our Staines office in Middlesex.

The successful candidate will provide discipline leadership and focal point to the design input of the overall project design team encompassing planning, scheduling, and execution of discipline activities and deliverables, including manhour estimating when requested. This is role is to support an HPHT project, initially and then moving on to Energy Transition.

Our Piping Department operation is expanding and evolving to manage the challenges of regional projects that continue to pose challenges in offering our services through a global talent pool.

Reporting to the Piping Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering pipe stress engineering for the project.

RESPONSIBILITIES

To provide support to a project in all aspects of pipe stress engineering:
  • Responsible for all piping stress analysis related activities for the project.
  • Prepare project specific stress analysis technical specification.
  • Prepare project specific pipe support catalogue.
  • Prepare datasheets and perform technical bid evaluation for special pipe support like springs / snubbers / PTFE sliding plate etc. in accordance with the applicable codes and technical work practices.
  • Prepare stress critical line list following the stress criticality criteria specified in stress analysis specification.
  • Perform pipe stress analysis and provide input to piping design and structural in form of stress sketch providing support type, location and loading information.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, as well as applicable code requirements and national / international standards.
  • Maintain the required technical integrity and quality of work for all deliverables.
  • Design & engineering of special supports that fall outside of standard support catalogue.
  • Coordinating with all disciplines (as necessary) in the preparation and development of the deliverables and ensuring that other disciplines' input is correctly incorporated.
  • Review relevant client provided data and incorporate in pipe stress engineering documents and analysis, as applicable.
  • Check stress calculations performed by other engineers following the applicable work instructions and check lists.
  • Checking project piping isometrics to ensure stress comments are correctly incorporated.
  • Report on work status /problem areas/needs on a weekly basis.
  • To comply with project QA requirements and ensure all aspects of these requirements are implemented in design.
  • Liaise with and reporting to Lead Piping Engineer.
QUALIFICATIONS

  • UK bachelor's degree or equivalent in appropriate engineering subject.
  • Experience in greenfield and brownfield offshore oil & gas platforms / FPSO / Refinery / Petrochemical / Chemical / Power Plants.
  • Good knowledge of Piping Stress Analysis theory and Caesar II Software.
  • Good understanding and experience in special analysis such as Two phases Flow, slugging, Surge Analysis, Water hammer, PSV discharge, Seismic, wind etc.
  • Good understanding of Fatigue analysis for Offshore bridge piping / FPSO piping.
  • Understanding Piping layout, 3D Computer Aided design, particularly PDMS / E3D.
